Hotels in Toulouse: prices, timing and areas
Toulouse is the pink city on the Garonne, built from local terracotta that glows warm at sunset. The centre is compact and you can walk across it in under half an hour, with a metro and tram on top, so a base a little further out is still convenient. Guests usually stay two or three nights, moving between Place du Capitole, the Saint Sernin basilica and the Canal du Midi. Rates can swing sharply between November and June and between a Friday and a Tuesday. This list has 1 657 properties, from a hostel bed to a boutique hotel by the Capitole. Below is what really drives the price of a stay in Toulouse: the month, the day of the week and the district.
When to book a stay in Toulouse for less
It is cheapest in late autumn. November is usually the bottom of the market, about 27 percent below the average, as tourist traffic eases. June is the most expensive, up to 45 percent above the average, when the season starts and the city fills with festival visitors. The arrival day matters too: Friday is the cheapest, Tuesday the most expensive. Toulouse has no big last-minute market, so for a peak-season trip it is worth booking about two months ahead. Spring and early autumn are the nicest for sightseeing, as summer temperatures can reach close to forty degrees.
What a stay costs by property type
Toulouse has a wide price range, because hostel beds and air-conditioned flats in the hypercentre sit alongside chain hotels and small boutiques by the Capitole. The cheapest sleep is in hostels and plain apartments; you pay the most for a boutique hotel in the very centre. Below are indicative nightly rates.
| Property type | Indicative price per night (from) |
| Hostel bed or plain room | from approx. EUR 30 |
| Apartment or budget place | from approx. EUR 60 |
| Three-star hotel | from approx. EUR 90 |
| Four-star hotel | from approx. EUR 145 |
| Boutique or premium hotel | from approx. EUR 266 |

Where a stay is cheaper and where it costs more
The most properties and the most demand are in the City Centre around Place du Capitole. This is the most popular and the highest rated base, close to the city hall, the opera and the main shopping streets, so prices hold above the average here. The area around the Matabiau station is handy too, with quick metro links to most sights. It is cheaper further out, in fringe areas such as Toulouse Sud-Est, where rates are among the lowest in the city. Because Toulouse is compact and has a metro, a room outside the very centre does not cut you off from the sights.
Which stay in Toulouse suits whom
- First time in Toulouse. The City Centre around Place du Capitole is the easiest base, within a walk of the city hall, the opera and the Saint Sernin basilica. From here most sights are on foot.
- For families. Air-conditioned apartments in the hypercentre or family rooms in quieter districts. Close to the green banks of the Garonne and to the Cité de l Espace on the edge of the city.
- For couples. Boutique hotels in the heart of the pink city, some with a view over the terracotta roofs. In the evening it is close to the cassoulet restaurants and bars around the Capitole.
- With breakfast. Many central hotels include breakfast in the rate, handy before a day out. From here it is a short morning walk along the Canal du Midi.
- Business travel. Hotels by the Matabiau station and in the centre are close to the offices and the fast train. The metro and tram reach most addresses without a change.
- Near the airport. Toulouse Blagnac airport is to the west of the city. Hotels around it suit an early flight, and the tram runs into the centre.

When Toulouse is more expensive
It is more expensive from late spring to the end of summer, when the weather suits sightseeing and the city is busy with events. Prices rise most in June, partly because of the Rio Loco world music festival on the Garonne. For that period it is worth booking ahead. The cheapest and quietest time is late autumn and winter, when there are fewer tourists.
